Clam Pipes

We stock lightweight clam pipes. They measure 12" inside diameter by 30" tall and cost $35.00 plus tax.
A Little History
Clamming on the mud flats of Tomales Bay has probably been going on since the original settlers, the Miwok Indians, came to these shores.  To learn more about the history of Lawson's Landing, visit Our History page >
Clamming
Clamming at Lawson's Landing can be done whenever there is a tide that is 0.5 or lower. However 0.5 is the highest tide that the clam beds will uncover and therefore it must be calm (no wind or heavy surf) in order for you to be able to dig. Tides that are listed on the calendar are there because it is possible to dig but in some cases weather conditions may make digging impossible. Also many tides are late in the day and marginal under ideal conditions but too late to have adequate time to really get your clams before the sun sets. A calendar of the low tides is available by emailing your address to lawsonslanding@gmail.com, calling us at (707) 878-2443, or clicking here for an image of the calendar.

You need to have in your possession a valid California fishing license. If you do not have a fishing license, plan on arriving early with an I.D. as the new licensing system can take much longer. As for gear you should have a regular garden type shovel, a clam tube, a bucket or sack, and rubber boots or shoes you can wash or toss in the garbage. Wear old clothes or a rain suit as you will get wet and sandy (black mucky sand).
A Message from the Lawson's
One of the many interests that bring many to our area are the Giant Clams that can be dug during the low tides of the spring and fall. We'd like all of our customers to be aware of conservation practices we have in place so that we can assure that our future generations can dig clams on Tomales Bay.

When you visit please make yourself aware of the rules and regulations that pertain to this area. Tomales Point is part of the Point Reyes National Seashore and has information posted with special rules regarding use of the Seashore.

Please note that the "CLAM CLIPPER" has been sold and will never run again. There has been an improvement in the clam population over the last few years, but if we want to ensure that we have clams in the future, we have to continue the measures that were introduced a few years ago.

The use of our rental boats to ferry groups to the clam beds is limited to a maximum of nine people in two trips. This restriction is in place for safety reasons as well as to reduce impacts on the clam population.

It is also important not to dig more clams than is allowed by law. We work with the wardens from Dept. of Fish and Game to make sure they are on the premises when low tides occur. If you see infractions being made, please call (CAL TIP at 800-952-5400).

We'd also like to thank all our friends and loyal customers who have helped us by signing petitions and writing letters against the various restrictions and closures instigated at the State and Federal level regarding our land and the uses of Tomales Bay. We want to make sure that our legislators are aware of how many people use and love this area, and it's thanks to you that the message is getting out.
