The "Clam Clipper" has been sold and will NOT be running ever again.

Clamming at Lawson's Landing can be done whenever there is a tide that is 0.5 or lower. However 0.5 is the highest tide that the clam beds will uncover and therefore it must be calm (no wind or heavy surf) in order for you to be able to dig. Tides that are listed on the calendar are there because it is possible to dig but conditions is some cases may make that impossible. Also many tides are late enough in the day and marginal under ideal conditions but to late to have adequate time to really get your clams before the sun sets.

You need to have in your possession a valid California Saltwater fishing license that must be worn and visible above the waist. As for gear you should have a regular garden type shovel, tube or pipe, a bucket or sack, and rubber boots or shoes you can wash or toss in the garbage. Wear old cloths or a rain suit as you will get wet and sandy (black mucky sand).

Boats and motors are not rented for the late fall tides.

A MESSAGE FROM THE LAWSON'S

The "CLAM CLIPPER" has been sold and will never run again. There has been a slight improvement in the clam population over the last few years but if we want to insure clams in the future we have to continue the measures that were introduced a few years ago. Although it's been a long tradition of running a clam ferry in the spring, the millennium will bring changes. The use of our rental boats to ferry large groups to the clam beds will be curtailed to a maximum of two trips. This is being done for safety reasons as well as to minimize impact on the clam population.

We have also noted an alarming incidence in people digging more clams than is allowed by law. We work with the wardens from Dept. of Fish and Game to make sure they are on the premises when low tides occur, but often they are overwhelmed. If you see infractions being made, please call (CAL TIP at 800-952-5400. We'd like all our customers to be aware of conservation practices so that we can assure our future generations can dig clams on Tomales Bay.

We'd also like to thank all our friends and loyal customers who have helped us by signing petitions and writing letters against the various restrictions and closures instigated at the State and Federal level regarding our land and the uses of Tomales Bay. A lot of our legislators are unaware of how many people use and love this area and it's thanks to you that the message is getting out.
