In order to preserve and maintain our natural environment Lawson's Landing is asking you, our patrons, to assist us in this task. There are many ways to be of help. Keeping your camp site clean and free of litter is very important. The campfire rings are for burning wood only. They are not trash receptacles. All other waste including crab, clam and oyster shells should be placed in dumpsters. Keep in mind, there are no trash cans in the dunes or on the beach Please bring back the items you take out for your walk and dispose of them in a proper manner. If you notice someone abusing the environment, please bring it to our attention. While walking your dog on the beach, be certain to keep your pet under control. Do not allow your dog to chase shore birds or seals. Some birds are protected like the "Western Snowy Plover" and require you to keep your distance. Marine mammals are also protected and you and your pet should stay a good distance from them when they are on the beach. We will do our part and with your help and co-operation, Lawson's Landing and the surrounding areas will remain healthy and unspoiled for future generations to enjoy. Thank You Whales and seals can be found in Tomales Bay. Currently, three to six California Gray whales are feeding near Tomales Point and can be seen from shore. Another Gray has been feeding inside the bay between Tom's point and Hog Island. People boating in these areas should not approach the whales too closely while viewing them. Harbor seals live on the bay year-round and have a haul-out, or resting area, on the southwest end of Seal Island. Approaching too closely to the resting seals can scare them into the water at a time when they are trying to regain their strength so please give them their space. Also, during pupping season the mother Harbor seals will leave their pups alone on the beach while the mother feeds. A lone pup is not abandoned and is in no trouble until someone approaches it. Please stay away from pups and alert other beachgoers to do the same. |
